Botox is an injection treatment used to remove the lines and wrinkles on a person’s face. This substance is also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A. Currently Botox injection is the most common cosmetic treatment for removing lines and wrinkles of the face. A specialist performs this procedure at Estetikcentrum.

How does Botox work?

Botulinum Toxin Type A is a substance that paralyzes underlying muscles and removes wrinkles by blocking nerves and preventing muscle contraction. In other words, Botox injection relaxes the muscle and lifts it.

This substance can also be used for cosmetic purposes to remove smile-line, frown line and wrinkles under the eyes and forehead. It is also used to prevent muscle cramping, excessive sweating, teeth grinding, and migraine.

Can I be treated using Botox?

Botox can be used to treat different issues and discomforts. Botox is usually used to resolve previously existing wrinkles and discomforts but it can also be used as a preventative measure.

When you book a consultation before undergoing Botox injection, our doctor will meet you and together you’ll analyze the issues you’re facing.

Who is a suitable candidate for Botox injection?

  • Someone with a good health condition
  • Someone who is at least 18 years old

Who is prohibited from receiving a Botox injection?

  • Those with a history of neuromuscular diseases like MS
  • Those with weak muscles in the area where the injection is going to be made
  • Those who suffer from eyelid sagging
  • Those who have deep scars on their face
  • Those who have an asymmetrical face
  • Those who have very thick skin

The benefits of Botox injection

Using Botox has many benefits; which is why this is a highly popular treatment among people for its pervasive application. This treatment method is relatively minor and safe which is always done under the supervision of a licensed practitioner and the patient rarely feels any discomfort during or after the treatment.

This is a non-invasive method and therefore does not require surgery. The results achieved through injection are delicate and natural. Treatment is done on an outpatient basis so the patient can return to their routine life immediately.

Complications and side-effects

The treatment must always be done by a specialized doctor or nurse because an incorrect injection could cause complications such as muscle sagging.

Botox injection is virtually painless but there is a chance of bruising around the sensitive treatment areas. Other complications of this treatment method include:

  • Headache
  • Numbness
  • Sensitivity to touch
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Burning sensation at the place of injection
  • Eyelid sagging

Luckily, the above-mentioned complications are all temporary and go away after a few days.

Injecting Botox into the forehead

Forehead lines form due to aging, frowning, sagging of the brows, and efforts to lift them. Forehead Botox injection is quick and painless and does not need any anesthetic injection.

Injection between the two brows

Wrinkles between two brows, which are referred to as the 11 lines, are formed as a result of frowning and aging.

Botox injection below the eye

The most valuable part of your face is your eyes. Smiling and frowning affect your eyes in time and cause wrinkles around them. Except for the laugh line, there are other delicate lines seen around the eyes which are known as crow’s feet.

Botox is highly useful for the area around the eyes and it helps your eyes regain their enchanting look while brightening up your face.

Botox injection for lips

The curved wrinkles around your mouth are due to smiling or frowning; luckily, these frown and smile lines and wrinkles can be removed using Botox which helps you get rid of the sad and depressed look on your face.

Botox injection into the neck wrinkles

Botox injection can easily remove necklines and wrinkles around the neck. This area is highly sensitive and one small mistake or improper injection could result in the patient’s inability to eat.

Migraine treatment

Migraines are devastating headaches which sometimes last for days. The botox injection in these patients can stop or increase the interval between these headaches. This effect lasts 3 to 4 months.

Sweating treatment

Botox blocks nerve signals to the sweat glands. Before beginning the treatment, a simple iodine test for starch is conducted on your skin to determine the parts in need of the injection.

To start, some numbing cream is applied and the place of injection is disinfected using a special solution. Botox injections take around 15 minutes to perform on most body parts. Botox for excessive sweating uses small thin needles, for example around 50 units of Botox are injected in the armpit.

This treatment method can be used to reduce sweating in the armpits, palms, forehead, and soles.

Before Botox treatment

After arranging a certain date for your Botox injection, you’ll meet with our specialists. During the session, your expectations are reviewed and you’ll receive information on the function of the treatment and more. The doctor’s and your opinion on aesthetics must be identical.

For example, if your definition of beauty is a frozen and motionless face and your doctor prefers a more natural face structure, then, neither of you will be pleased with the final outcome. Therefore, it is necessary that both the patient and doctor have a similar goal in mind.

If it is determined that you’re a suitable candidate for a Botox treatment, then the injection will be most likely done during the same consultation session or directly afterward.

We always recommend our patients to avoid using blood thinning medication before the injection. This is to prevent bleeding and reduce the risk of bruising.

Using the following medication leads to blood-thinning:

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Vitamin E
  • Omega 3
  • Herbal medicines

Botox injection is also not recommended while pregnant.

Observe the following points during the Botox injection session:

No makeup

Clean your face with rubbing alcohol or a disinfectant before the Botox injection. So make sure not to apply anything on your face before coming to the clinic. If you have put on makeup, you’ll need to remove it at the clinic.

Stay calm

If you’re afraid of needles, make sure to keep yourself busy with another thought. Think of anything else but the needle. The injection will have been completed before you even know it.

Keep your cool and follow the doctor’s instructions carefully; during the treatment, you’ll be instructed to smile, rest your face, frown and so on.

Use ice packs

Using an ice pack before and after Botox helps reduce any potential symptoms of bruising.

How is this procedure performed?

If our specialist or nurse practitioner determines that you’re a suitable candidate for this treatment, then Botox injection will most likely be performed right after the first consultation session.

There is usually no need to use anesthetic around the treatment area but if you wish to or think that you’re sensitive around that area, then you’ll always have that option available to you.

Botox injection is done with a very thin needle under the skin which injects a small dose of Botox. The whole treatment takes around fifteen to twenty minutes and you can return to your daily routine immediately afterward.

Botox treatment can be combined with other skin injections such as filler injections; this more commonly referred to as combination therapy. We’ve previously covered different fillers in other posts, so we recommend that you read those for more information.

You can talk to Fariba, our highly experienced nurse, about Botox and fillers.

After Botox treatment

Botox injection is relatively painless and quick. If you’ve chosen the injection for the removal of wrinkles and lines, then you will most likely experience bruising after the treatment which is due to your face’s sensitivity and how thin your skin is.

We recommend that patients go back to living their daily routine, as in act how you would normally deal with your face. This way the treated areas are stimulated and you’ll achieve better results.

Nonetheless, you should never massage or rub the treated area because it could lead the injected Botox away from the muscles. So make sure to not participate in any heavy physical activity.

Avoid direct contact with sunlight or heat for up to 72 hours. The Head removes the effects of Botox.

Avoid consuming salty foods for up to 24 hours.

Make sure to elevate your head a bit using an extra pillow to prevent your face from swelling.

If you’re suffering from swelling, then place an ice pack on the affected area for 15 minutes.

Undergoing laser hair removal is strictly prohibited for 48 hours. Similarly, you’re not allowed to go to a sauna or take a hot shower.

When will the results become noticeable and how long will they last?

The final outcome of Botox injection depends on multiple factors, such as the severity of the wrinkles and lines, the size of the muscles under the lines, and the amount of Botox injected. Usually it takes a few days for the Botox to take full effect in the treatment area.

Botox’s effect is not permanent but it does last for about three to six months. This means that you will need to repeat this treatment two or three times a year to maintain its effect.

Is it possible to be allergic to Botox? Is there a way to diagnose it?

Botox test is the primary way to make sure that you’re not allergic to Botox before the injection. Some of the allergy symptoms of Botox include irritation, burning, hives, short breath, and asthma in extreme cases.

How much Botox does each person need?

Each person’s situation is different. Each person needs a certain amount of Botox based on the place of injection. So the important factors on how much Botox is needed are skin condition, patient’s health, and the place of injection.

For example, men need more Botox compared to women because of the size of their muscles. So in addition to the number of wrinkles, the patient’s gender is also a determining factor in the amount of injection.

Does long-term use of Botox reduce its effectiveness or lead to permanent muscle failure?

The truth is that your muscle will never become permanently disabled and it’s only possible for it to become resistant to Botox after multiple injections which leads to lower effectiveness and shorter results.

If you feel that you haven’t achieved the desired result through Botox, it might better to look for alternative skin rejuvenation methods. In such cases, you should definitely consult with our specialists.

Is there an age limit on Botox?

No, however it’s uncommon for young people to receive this injection unless they develop significant wrinkles after they’ve developed due to exposure to environmental factors and sunlight.

Can deep wrinkles also be removed with the help of Botox?

It might not be possible to remove these wrinkles with Botox alone. In such cases, the patient must visit the doctor again after their injection to see what the next course of action should be.
