Chemical peeling for beginners: how it works and what you need to know

Thinking about trying chemical peeling, but not sure what it really means? You're not alone. One of the most common questions we encounter is precisely what chemical peeling is, and whether it is suitable for the purpose the customer has.

So let's clear that up. Because we realize the name might sound a little scary (chemical and peeling in the same sentence), but in fact it's a safe, effective and often very gentle treatment that can do wonders for the skin, even for those who are completely new to skincare.

What is chemical peeling?

In simple terms, chemical peeling is a treatment where a special acid solution is applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells and kick-start cell renewal. Having acid on your face probably doesn't sound very appealing, but it's not about your skin peeling off in droves. There are different strengths and types of peels, and many of them are mild enough to leave you feeling just a little extra fresh.

So what happens in the skin? Well, the acid solution works its way down into the layers of the skin, accelerating processes that are already there, such as producing new collagen, increasing blood circulation and evening out skin tone. The result is smoother, clearer and more radiant skin after just one treatment.
