More and more people are choosing laser treatment as a permanent solution to unwanted hair growth and there are good reasons why. Laser is one of the most effective ways to get rid of hair that irritates and bothers you, without having to worry about cuts and stubble. But how does it really work and what should you think about before and after the treatment?
At Estetikcentrum in Malmö, we often get questions from curious beginners and patients who want to know more about the treatment method and in this guide we give you all the answers you need.
What is laser hair removal?
Before we get into the preparation, price or results, let's first clarify what diode laser treatment is. In simple terms, diode laser uses a concentrated light of a specific wavelength (also known as selective photothermolysis) that is directed at the pigment in the hair follicle. The light is absorbed by the melanin, converted into heat and destroys the hair follicle, preventing new hair from growing. The technique is both gentle and effective, especially for dark hairs.
How to prepare
Before your first laser treatment, it is important that your skin is in good condition. This means that you should not have sunbathed (either outdoors or in a solarium) in recent weeks, as this can make your skin more sensitive to the laser light. Also, avoid waxing or plucking hair from the area. Shaving, however, is perfectly fine and actually recommended.
What does aftercare look like?
After the treatment, your skin may feel a little warm or slightly red. We can compare it to the feeling after a day in the sun. This is completely normal and usually goes away within 24 hours. We recommend that you avoid exposing the area to direct sunlight for 4 weeks and that you use sunscreen with a high SPF. It's also wise to avoid intense exercise or sauna bathing on the day of treatment and to avoid perfumed skin creams. Both sweat and perfume can irritate your already sensitive skin.
Price and number of treatment sessions
The price of laser treatment depends on the area you want to treat and how many sessions are required. Smaller areas such as armpits cost from around SEK 795 per session, while larger areas such as legs or back are higher. During your consultation, you will receive an individually tailored treatment proposal and price plan based on your needs.
Results - what can you expect?
Laser treatment gives gradual but long-lasting results. This means that it may take a few treatments before you notice that hair growth has become sparser. However, most people see a clear reduction in hair growth already after 2-3 treatments, but it usually takes about 10 treatments for optimal results and to ensure that the hair stays away in the future. Each treatment is performed approximately 5 weeks apart.
Important to consider
- Avoid sun before and after treatment
- Shave the area, but do not wax or pluck
- Follow our recommendations for best results
- Be patient. We promise the end result will be worth the wait
