Feeling unhappy or uncomfortable with your appearance is never fun - for both children and adults. Prominent ears can have a negative impact on self-esteem and can be a stressful part of everyday life. Although it is a very common feeling for those who have protruding ears, there is help available. At Estetikcentrum in Malmö, we offer otoplasty, a surgical solution to adjust the position and shape of the ears.
Why do ears stick out?
The main cause of protruding ears is the genetic factor. As with our nose (and many other facial features), we also inherit ears from parents or relatives. Ears can also have an asymmetrical shape due to a congenital malformation or if they have been damaged in an accident.
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to correct protruding or asymmetrical ears. By angling the ears back closer to the head, a more balanced and harmonious facial profile can be achieved - something many people aspire to. The operation is performed under local anesthesia and takes about an hour. Recovery is quick for most people and the majority of our patients go home the same day.
When is ear surgery suitable?
We know how important it is to feel comfortable in your own skin. That's why we offer otoplasty for both older and younger people. At Estetikcentrum , we also perform surgery on children over the age of 15. However, for older children, teenagers and adults who feel that protruding ears affect their self-esteem, otoplasty may be a suitable solution.

What to expect after the operation?
After the surgery, you will wear a bandage around your head to fix your ears in their new position. After about a week, the bandage will be removed and a headband is recommended at night for the following 1-2 weeks to protect the result and your new fine ears. Most people return to their normal activities within a few days, but it is important to avoid physical exertion for the first few weeks.
If you or your child are considering otoplasty, we are here to help. Our goal is to create beautiful and harmonious results that look natural and fit with the profile of the face. Please contact us for more information or to book a consultation with one of our skilled surgeons!
