Many people find that protruding ears can be a nuisance, both for confidence and in everyday life. If you're thinking about doing something about it, an otoplasty is a safe and effective way to shape and reposition your ears. Here we tell you more about how ear surgery works at the Estetikcentrum, so you know exactly what to expect.
Step 1: Consultation
The consultation is always the first step before a surgical procedure and here you will have the opportunity to meet our skilled and responsive surgeons. During the consultation, we will listen to your expectations and wishes, answer any questions you may have, show you examples of previous results and give you an approximate idea of what the final result may be. We will also tell you about the price, payment options and waiting times. If you want to know more about our safety guarantee and patient insurance, there is of course time for that too.
Step 2: Operating on protruding ears - how it works
When you are ready for surgery, you will be given either a local or general anesthetic, whichever suits you best. The procedure itself rarely takes more than an hour, but expect to spend 4-6 hours in the clinic in total. A torn incision is created behind the ear so that the surgeon can shape the cartilage and get the ear into the desired position. The most common is to remove cartilage so that the ear is closer to the head.
Step 3: Aftercare and recovery
After the operation, you will be given a bandage to fix your ears in their new position, which you will wear throughout your first week. After that, you will change to a softer headband that you will only need to wear at night for the next 3-4 weeks. It is important to take it easy and avoid exercise for the first few weeks to ensure the best possible healing.
During the healing period, you may feel some soreness or tension, but this is completely normal and can be relieved with regular painkillers. About a week after the operation, you will come back to see us to check that everything is healing properly and that you are happy with the results. The healing process itself can take a few months, but most people feel recovered after just a few weeks.
