For many, undergoing breast augmentation is a very large and extensive procedure. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you are satisfied with the result and that you get the bust you want. There are many different types of breast implants on the market, and it is not always easy to know which ones are best suited to your body (and your desired result).

Which breast implants will suit you best depends, among other things, on your current conditions, your anatomy, and the result you are striving for. During your consultation with the surgeon, you will discuss together which implant will be the best choice for you. If you still want to learn more about the different breast implants on the market and get a deeper understanding of which options are best for you - follow our guide!

What result do you want?

Before coming to your consultation, it's good to have an idea of the results you want and expect. By being clear about your wishes, you make it easier for the surgeon to understand your needs and find the right method and implants. The different implants available on the market will give you different results. Therefore, it's not a bad idea to look at before and after pictures of breast augmentation on the website!

High profile round implants have a more pronounced outer edge. These are suitable for those who need to fill out both the top and bottom of the breast. They are also suitable for those who want a more rounded bust shape or for those looking for a deeper cleavage. There are also teardrop-shaped implants that provide natural silicone breasts. Drop-shaped or anatomical implants are carefully designed to mimic the shape of the natural breast as much as possible.

Mentor or Motiva - which to choose?

There are several manufacturers of breast implants, with Mentor and Motiva being the most commonly used in Swedish clinics.

Mentor implant

Mentor is currently the most widely used implant for breast augmentation in Sweden. Behind the product is Johnson & Johnson, a large company with many years of experience in the development and production of implants. If you choose Mentor, you get an FDA-approved implant, which means that you get a quality stamp that ensures that the implants are carefully scientifically and clinically tested. Here you can choose between different sizes from 120 cc up to 1055 cc, as well as round or anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants. You will also find Moderate, Moderate Plus, and High and Ultra High profiles. Which implant is best for you depends on your anatomy, your conditions and your desired result.

Motiva implants

Unlike Mentor, Motiva is a relatively new prosthetic company on the market. Motiva started up in 2010 and since then has been providing high quality breast prostheses for breast correction and breast augmentation. Like Mentor, you can find implants in different sizes, but perhaps the main difference between the two manufacturers is the shape of the implants. Motiva focuses mainly on round implants, although they do have a model (Motiva Ergonomix) that gives a more natural result. The profiles offered by Motiva include Mini, Demi, Full and Corsé. The choice of profile determines how prominent your breasts will be and together with your surgeon you will find the best solution for you.

Choose the right size

During a consultation, you will have the opportunity to try out different sizes of implants to see what suits you best. You can do this by testing the implants under a tight tank top or t-shirt. The most common sizes of breast implants are between 200-500 cc, but all variations can occur. For example, it is not uncommon to choose one slightly larger and one slightly smaller implant, as we are not completely symmetrical naturally.

100 cc is the same as 100 ml. If you want to test in peace and quiet at home, you can use freezer bags and rice. Measure several different sizes and then see what you think looks best. Note that the size usually decreases slightly as your body adjusts to the implants. The difference is rarely large, but can be crucial for those who weigh between two different sizes.

How long do breast implants last?

When undergoing a surgical procedure, you certainly want to understand how long the results will last. Both Mentor and Motiva offer a lifetime guarantee on all their prostheses. This means that you will always get new implants if there is a crack in the implant or if it otherwise breaks. Both companies also offer a 10-year capsule guarantee.

Knowing that you are protected by a good and comprehensive guarantee is of course reassuring, but it doesn't tell you how long your results will last. Simply put, your breast augmentation is permanent and the implants will not change shape or shrink in size. What can affect the appearance of your breasts is pregnancy, weight change or natural aging, among other things.
