It's best if you aren't sunburned or tanned, as the veins are harder to see and therefore more difficult to treat.

Sclerotherapy has proven effective in treating small varicose veins and superficial blood vessels. Results may vary depending on the individual’s specific condition and the extent of the varicose veins. In some cases, multiple treatment sessions may be required to achieve the desired results. Your doctor will be able to give you a better idea of what to expect based on your individual situation.

Sclerotherapy is usually performed with minimal discomfort. A fine needle is used to inject the sclerosing agent into the blood vessel, and most people experience only a mild burning or stinging sensation during the procedure. Anesthesia is usually not necessary, but in some cases, a local anesthetic may be used to reduce discomfort.

After sclerosis, the following is recommended:

• Take a break from exercise for two to three days after your sclerotherapy
• Do not expose the treated area to sunlight for at least two weeks after sclerotherapy, as this may cause skin discoloration
• After treatment of larger veins, you may experience some tenderness for a while following the procedure
• Apply a pressure bandage to the treated area for the first 24 hours after treatment 
• Wear compression stockings during the first week
• Spider veins may become more noticeable immediately after treatment
• The color usually ranges from red to blue, then brown, and finally fades away within 6–8 weeks
