However, this isn’t the case for everyone, and in such cases, you can determine whether you’re a candidate for gynecomastia treatment. Weight loss, anabolic steroids, or a high body fat percentage are other factors that can lead to enlarged breasts.
This is one of many common questions about gynecomastia, and yes, we recommend a hormonal evaluation beforehand. We want to rule out the possibility that your breast enlargement is caused by an underlying medical condition before we perform surgery. Gynecomastia surgery is usually performed under light sedation or local anesthesia.
If the gynecomastia is caused by the growth of breast glandular tissue, an incision is made and tissue is removed from the underside of the areola.
If it is pseudogynecomastia—that is, gynecomastia caused by fat accumulation—you may opt for liposuction around the chest area.
The procedure is relatively simple and can therefore be performed under local anesthesia or light sedation.
Once the procedure is complete, we will apply invisible stitches to minimize scarring and a bandage, and you will be discharged the same day.
Every body heals differently, but in most cases, you can see the results of the procedure as early as one to two weeks later. However, it may take up to several months for the skin around the breasts to adjust and tighten. For this reason, we recommend that our patients avoid strenuous physical activity during the first few months.
