Tummy tuck in Malmö

Dr. Ali Bagher conducts a tummy tuck consultation.

Abdominoplasty, or 'tummy tuck' as it is often called, is an operation to remove loose skin on the abdomen to create a flatter and smoother stomach. The operation is usually done to improve the appearance of the stomach after pregnancy or weight loss, for example, when the skin has stretched out and not kept up with the rest of the body as it has reduced in size.

The procedure is common and has helped thousands of patients regain a body they recognize and love, and get rid of health problems caused by loose skin, such as fungal infections in the skin folds or itching when sweating. Our patients often report feeling much more satisfied with their lives after their surgery, which is exactly why we perform so many tummy tuck procedures at Estetikcentrum here in Malmö.

Abdominoplasty on Estetikcentrum

Abdominoplasty can restore what has been lost after pregnancy and weight changes. Our specialists will customize your tummy tuck according to your wishes and circumstances.

A tummy tuck at Estetikcentrum in Malmö tightens the skin over the stomach and makes the waistline more prominent. Stretch marks are removed and the result is a flatter stomach without loose skin, and a slimmer waistline.

Many patients who have lost a lot of weight cannot get rid of the excess skin around the waist through exercise and still feel dissatisfied with their body. A tummy tuck can therefore provide that extra boost of self-confidence after weight loss or pregnancy.

For many of our patients, their tummy tuck at Estetikcentrum in Malmö means that after surgery they experience:

Facts about tummy tucks

Abdominoplasty is usually a major operation and should not be underestimated. The procedure is always performed while the patient is under anaesthesia, and an overnight stay after the operation is included to allow us to monitor the patient for the first 24 hours after the procedure.

Abdominoplasty is usually a major operation and should not be underestimated. The procedure is always performed while the patient is under anaesthesia, and an overnight stay after the operation is included to allow us to monitor the patient for the first 24 hours after the procedure.

However, the size of the procedure varies greatly between patients, as the amount of skin to be removed differs between individuals. For some, removing a small amount of skin is enough, while others have a lot of loose skin and may also want to combine the procedure with liposuction to get a more visible result. It all depends on your body and your preferences, and the surgeons at Estetikcentrum always listen to your voice and make their assessments and recommendations accordingly.

Abdominoplasty has improved the lives of many of our patients in different ways. Some find that improved physical health makes the biggest difference, such as better hygiene and less weight. Others find that the mental side is the best part - the flatter stomach gives them more confidence and makes it easier to buy clothes that fit well.

Many also find that they become more active and that activity is more enjoyable when they feel comfortable in their body. This brings additional benefits and even better well-being. This positive spiral makes it fun for us as a clinic to follow our patients' journey even after surgery.

Why have a tummy tuck?

Abdominoplasty can address several concerns:

Abdominoplasty for split abs

Some women find that their abdominal muscles divide during the very last part of pregnancy, and that these cannot be restored through exercise and physiotherapy. Some choose to have an abdominoplasty to restore the original position of the abdominal muscles.

It is important to check whether this is included in the price of the surgery at the clinic you choose. Sometimes there may be an additional cost. At Estetikcentrum , this feature is always included in your tummy tuck price, as it is an important part of a well-functioning body and high quality of life.

How safe is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty is a common operation that many people who have given birth or lost weight choose to have to feel better about themselves. The procedure is relatively safe, but it is important that it is performed by an experienced, trained plastic surgeon. You can read more about our surgeons and their experience and specialties here.

It is important to note that no surgical procedure is completely free of risks and complications. A tummy tuck can lead to infection and bleeding in the days and weeks following the procedure, and in the long term there may be scarring and loss of sensation in the operated area.

We always encourage our patients to discuss risks and concerns with their chosen surgeon at the consultation in order to make an informed decision about whether to undergo the surgery. It is also important to follow all instructions from the doctor both before and after the procedure to minimize the risk of complications.

Risks of abdominoplasty

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks and complications that can occur with abdominoplasty. Some of these risks include:

Woman with bra
curvy woman sitting on a bed in her underwear

Who can do a tummy tuck?

Abdominoplasty is most commonly performed on patients who have either been pregnant and have loose skin after giving birth, or people who have lost a lot of weight and have the same problem, but for a different reason. The way our skin contracts after weight changes is extremely individual, and some people experience a loss of skin elasticity.

To be a suitable candidate for a tummy tuck, your health should be generally good. Certain illnesses or conditions may make it dangerous to undergo general anesthesia, and we will advise you against it at the consultation. To be approved for surgery, you should:

Abdominoplasty for weight loss

Abdominoplasty is not a weight loss surgery. Although liposuction is sometimes used as an adjunct, this is only to address stubborn fat deposits that cannot be trained away.

If you want to lose weight, you can instead look at the Allurion program, which uses a gastric balloon to satisfy hunger and help you lose weight.

If you have had a gastric bypass or if Allurion is not suitable for you for some other reason, we also have the Saxess program, where an injection treatment is used to control appetite in conjunction with dietary advice.

Frequently asked questions about abdominoplasty

Read the answers to the most frequently asked questions about abdominoplasty at Estetikcentrum below. If you have other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Abdominoplasty surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. First, liposuction is performed if necessary. Then our experienced surgeon makes two incisions: one around and one below the navel.

Here your abdominal muscles can be sewn together and additional fat and loose skin can be removed. If you have a lot of loose skin, the navel can be moved upwards, leaving a small, discreet scar.

At Estetikcentrum we do not use drainage, as we do not cut deep into the muscle. Instead, a small layer of fat is left on the muscle.

How long a tummy tuck surgery takes depends, among other things, on the method used by the surgeon, whether it is a full or small tummy tuck, and whether you will also undergo liposuction or abdominal stitches.

We usually say that the procedure itself takes between 1-3 hours, but you always spend longer in the operating room due to anesthesia and preparation for your surgery.

The price starts at 49 900 sek for a lower tummy tuck, and 66,900 sek for a full tummy tuck.

Contact us to get a personalized quote based on your body and wishes.

We start with a consultation, where you will receive a surgical contract, health declaration and complication risks that you can read at home. We also review your state of health.

The day before your surgery, our nurse will call you and inform you about the best way to prepare for the procedure.

You can also book a second consultation free of charge if you have more questions.

After a tummy tuck, it is not unusual to feel both sore and tired. The girdle you have around your stomach and abdomen will probably feel tight and constricting.

Many people find it difficult to straighten their back once they are on their feet. This is a natural part of the tummy tuck procedure and is not dangerous.

During the first few days, it is also common to experience pain and soreness, for example when moving, laughing or coughing and sneezing.

Most people experience a very good recovery after just one week, but wait at least four weeks before heavy lifting and exercise.

There are two types of abdominoplasty: a full abdominoplasty and a mini-abdominoplasty of the lower abdomen.

Both types can eliminate unwanted fat, tighten loose skin and repair separated abdominal muscles.

In a full abdominoplasty, we remove tissue both above and below the navel. In a lower abdominoplasty, we only touch areas below the navel.

Most patients undergo a full abdominoplasty, as it is common for the entire midsection to be affected, but it largely depends on your body and wishes.

A third procedure around the midsection is called 'belt lipectomy'. This procedure does the same thing as full surgery but also removes extra fat and loose skin on the back using liposuction.

The aftercare of scars is very important for healing and reducing visibility. You will receive all information on self-care from your surgeon after surgery.

For example, it may help to walk with a slight bend at the waist for a few days after surgery to reduce the tension around the incisions.

Estetikcentrum also offers other treatments to reduce the visibility of scars after healing. Feel free to ask us or read more about microneedling, fractional laser and our aftercare packages here.

Before you go home, you will talk to your surgeon who will explain how the operation was performed and what is important to consider in the immediate postoperative period.

You will be given a follow-up appointment, a certificate of sick leave and painkillers. You will also be given a belt to wear around your abdomen for 4-6 weeks. During this time it is important that you avoid heavy lifting and vigorous movements.

Our nurse will call you the day after you return home to see how you are doing. The first follow-up visit takes place two weeks after surgery.

The final check takes place after about three months, when we check the results and take after pictures so you can see the difference clearly.

Following the surgeon's recommendations is important. Usually the following are included:

  • Dressing 3 days
  • Lots of rest in the first days
  • No smoking
  • Girdle 4 weeks
  • Tape the scars 2-3 months
  • Not tanning the scars
  • Wait with hard training for about 6 weeks

Even if you experience less pain and feel that you have mobility and energy, it is important that you and your body rest after the tummy tuck.

Therefore, you will always be on sick leave for two weeks to ensure a proper recovery. In the case of a major abdominoplasty, most people are able to return to work after about 2-3 weeks.

However, if you have a job that involves heavy lifting or a lot of movement, you may need to stay at home longer.

At your consultation with the surgeon, it is important that you tell them what you are working on, so that they can give you advice and guidance.
