For many people, undergoing breast augmentation is a major and extensive procedure. That is why it is of the utmost importance that you are satisfied with the results and that you achieve the bust line you desire. There are many different types of breast implants available on the market, and it is not always easy to know which ones are best suited to your body (and the desired outcome).

Which breast implants are best suited for you depends, among other things, on your current situation, your anatomy, and the results you’re hoping to achieve. During your consultation with the surgeon, you’ll discuss together which implant is the best choice for you. If you’d still like to learn more about the different breast implants available on the market and gain a deeper understanding of which options suit you best—then check out our guide!

What result are you looking for?

Before your consultation, it’s a good idea to have a general idea of the results you want and expect. By being clear about your wishes, you make it easier for the surgeon to understand your needs and select the right method and implants. The various implants available on the market will, in fact, give you different results. That’s why it’s not a bad idea to look at before-and-after photos of breast augmentation on the website!

High-profile round implants have a more pronounced outer edge. These are suitable for those who need to add volume to both the upper and lower parts of the breast. They are also ideal for those who want a more rounded bust shape or a deeper cleavage. There are also teardrop-shaped implants that create natural-looking silicone breasts. Teardrop-shaped or anatomical implants are carefully designed to mimic the shape of a natural breast as closely as possible.

Mentor or Motiva – which one should you choose?

There are several manufacturers of breast implants, with Mentor and Motiva being the most commonly used in Swedish clinics.

Mentor implants

Mentor is currently the most widely used implant for breast augmentation in Sweden. The product is manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, a major company with many years of experience in the development and production of implants. If you choose Mentor, you’ll receive an FDA-approved implant, which means you’ll have a seal of quality ensuring that the implants have been rigorously tested both scientifically and clinically. Here, you can choose from various sizes ranging from 120 cc up to 1055 cc, as well as round or anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants. You’ll also find the Moderate, Moderate Plus, High, and Ultra High profiles. Which implant is best for you depends, among other things, on your anatomy, your individual circumstances, and your desired outcome.

Motiva implants

Unlike Mentor, Motiva is a relatively new implant manufacturer on the market. Motiva was founded in 2010 and has since been providing high-quality breast implants for breast reconstruction and augmentation. Just like with Mentor, you can find implants in various sizes, but perhaps the main difference between the two manufacturers is the shape of the implants. Motiva focuses primarily on round implants, although they do have one model (Motiva Ergonomix) that provides a more natural result. The profiles offered by Motiva include Mini, Demi, Full, and Corsé. The choice of profile is crucial for how prominent your breasts will be, and together with your surgeon, you will find the best solution for you.

Choose the right size

During a consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to try on different implant sizes to see what suits you best. You’ll do this by trying the implants on under a tight tank top or T-shirt. The most common breast implant sizes range from 200 to 500 cc, but all sizes are available. For example, it’s not uncommon to choose one slightly larger and one slightly smaller implant, since we aren’t naturally perfectly symmetrical.

100 cc is the same as 100 ml. If you want to try them out in the comfort of your own home, you can use freezer bags and rice. Measure out different sizes and see which one you think looks best. Note that the size usually shrinks slightly once your body has adjusted to the implants. The difference is rarely significant, but it can be decisive for someone weighing the pros and cons of two different sizes.

How long do breast implants last?

When you’re about to undergo surgery, you’ll certainly want to know how long-lasting the results will be. Both Mentor and Motiva offer a lifetime warranty on all their implants. This means you’ll always receive new implants if the implant cracks or breaks in any other way. Both companies also offer a 10-year capsule warranty.

Knowing that you’re covered by a good, comprehensive warranty naturally provides peace of mind, but it doesn’t say anything about how long your results will last. Simply put, your breast augmentation is permanent, and the implants will neither change shape nor shrink in size. However, factors such as pregnancy, weight changes, or the natural aging process can affect the appearance of your breasts.
