In plastic surgery, a forehead lift is the most common method to overcome very deep creases and wrinkles in the forehead. It is a procedure that is performed on both men and women who all usually express a desire to look the way they feel. The method is used primarily to stretch the skin in the forehead and thereby also raising the eyebrows, therefore it counteracts even deep ”stress lines”.

Surgery at Estetikcentrum

If you feel that a forehead lift is a procedure for you, you are welcome to make an appointment for a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons. During this first meeting, we assess whether this method is suitable for your particular needs and wishes. Together, you map out your expectations and desired goals. You and your body are unique and therefore it is important to tailor the treatment to your specific conditions.

Before a forehead lift

If during the consultation it is deemed that the treatment is suitable for you, we will make an appointment for the forehead lift surgery. A good tip is to look at before/after pictures of the forehead lift to have an image of what the surgery can do for you. This way you can base your wishes and your vision on real and natural results. The plastic surgeon will inform you about and go through the various methods during the consultation. If you have specific questions, we recommend that you write these down before your first meeting, so that you remember the questions you want answered.

How is a forehead lift performed?

Forehead lifts differ from eyebrow lifts since the whole forehead is lifted up rather than just eyebrows. There are two different methods used to perform a forehead lift. Which surgical method best suits you will be determined by you and your plastic surgeon during the first meeting. Below we list both methods for a forehead lift and their pros and cons:

Forehead lift with method 1

In method 1 the plastic surgeon makes a long incision along the entire hairline, in some cases a little bit higher into the hairline. The plastic surgeon then unfastens the forehead skin from the incision down to the eyebrows. Here, the plastic surgeon may have to split a bit of the forehead muscles. Subsequently the forehead skin is tensed up towards the incision, and the excess skin above the incision is removed. In some cases, excess skin is removed from the eyelids (eyelid surgery). Then a bandage is applied for a number of days; a surgical nurse will inform you on exactly how long it is to remain there.

This surgery is done under general anesthesia or light general anesthesia (sedation) but for those who feel worried about being sedated, it can also be performed under local anesthesia and a sedative.

Forehead lift with method 2

With method 2 several small incisions are made inside the hairline and forehead lift is performed as keyhole surgery. The technique used in a laparoscopic surgery leaves less visible scars because they placed in the scalp and not along the hairline. The method is thusly very beneficial to patients who have thinner hair.

Other than the location and length of the incision, this method does not different significantly from the first. This method is often used in men with weaker hair growth as it produces smaller and more discreet scars. Method 1 with the incisions along the entire hairline usually, however, grants a better overview during the operation and thus better suspension of the forehead musculature, which often results in longer and better results than a laparoscopic surgery. Even this method can be performed under light anesthesia or general anesthesia but may, in some cases, also be performed in conjunction with a sedative and a local anesthetic.

After a forehead lift

The dressing placed after the surgery should be left for a few days. Your first return visit will then take place about a week after the surgery. During this first visit, we will remove any stitches and carefully check that the incision heals up as it should.
